Regional Report

Report filed by Howard Salkow, M.C. Inst. M., Calgary Branch Chair On Wednesday, September 30, Dr. William Cole, D. Ed., president of the Edge Institute, addressed the Calgary branch at a breakfast meeting. The subject of his address was: Adapting to Change in the New Economy.

He discussed issues where people should learn to expect things, not gloat or belabour the negative. Moreover, he spoke about how important it is to say that you can do something rather than believing nothing is attainable. He used the example of working with US Olympic teams and how he turned the moderately successful biathlon team into a great team. He interacted with the audience who responded well to his casual, but insightful approach.

Dr. Cole is president of Edge Learning Institute with offices in Seattle and Arizona, and a franchise operation in Alberta. They work on maximizing the human asset, and assisting companies and organizations with changes through mergers and acquisitions.

This was a successful event with close to 50 people attending at The Westin Calgary. Howard Salkow introduced Dr. William Cole, the guest speaker, and James Jarrett, Chair of the Canadian Institute of Marketing. The immediate feedback from the audience was that of excitement and inspiration after hearing Dr. Cole.

Information about the Canadian Institute of Marketing and the Edge Learning Institute was distributed to the attendees. James talked about the C. Inst. M., what it is trying to achieve, and various overseas affiliations.
